I've been curious about this line of fiction in India. What's the best you've read? Where should I begin?

This genre has not really been explored by Indian authors, has it? Even the Fantasy genre for that matter. Most books of the genres end up transforming into myth-fics. Authors need to move beyond the history and mythology and test new waters.

I haven't come across any in recent times. I the late eighties I think an Indian astrophysicist, Jayant Narlikar,  wrote a couple of books.

I've hardly read any sci-fi books by Indian authors, coming to think of it... Especially if you don't count Satyajit Ray's short stories. It'd be a good idea to look up a few when I get time.

theres a few in bengaly by Anis Bardhan i think.....not aware if translations available or not

Can somebody share name/title of some indian SciFi books? Curious to explore reading Sci fi books instead of watching SciFi movie..

Perhaps you could try Samit Basu's Turbulence series.

Hey. I've uploaded an anthology of selected science fiction stories by Indian authors, edited by Bal Phondke (https://www.craxme.com/thread-9869-1-1.html). It's not groundbreaking or anything but some of the stories are quite interesting. Let me know how you find it.

Now this is inquisitive. Yes, we need to dig up for this genre. There must be a few in past too.
