The group is a week old, and thank you all for joining in.

To make the group more inclusive, tell us what interests you, and what sections you would like included in the group. Break the ice! Fire away! This is an informal group, and all suggestions are welcome.

Non-fiction primarily. History, Travelogues, Biographies and Autobiographies, Memoirs, etc

I have uploaded a series of The China Trilogy by Peter Hessler - a journalist who travelled in China. The books have been very well written. Try them if you haven't. The first book I read in the series was #3 - Country Driving and that inetrested me a lot.

Besides that I am very interested in mythology, the Indian, Greek and East Asian. African tales too, interests me a lot. Apart from these law and order, crime and punishment, defence and polity, history, geo-political and socio-economic scenarios, psychology, criminology, international relations are topics I love to surf and understand.

Seems we are a limited group! Anyway, have any of you faced these phases in your readings? Like I used to like a particular genre once, now I like another. In between there were others. I can't say if my reading was maturing, as that would depend on one's perspective. It's simply that I have been through those phases. I may not enjoy a genre which once I thought was the best. But one thing has been a constant. A good mystery well written always interests me over all others - even more that the genre I am in love with at the moment!
How about your phases?

Oh my god, yes. There was a time when I looked forward to the books that talked about ethics and morality and had a tinge of philosophy. As I grew and realised that ethics is an ever changing dynamic concept; I can't bring myself to read the books that preach.

Now I want the writers to leave the judgement of their books solely on the readers. I hate when their stand is spoonfed; which is something I used to love as a young reader. I think with time changes are bound to happen. Though love for a good mystery is still intact!

Me too. I had this phase of reading myth-fics but got tired of them. Now I am into non-fictions. But I do enjoy a good autobiography or a memoir. That has been my constant.
I agree, we do grow as readers. I preferred light reads when younger, and stayed away from tomes. It is quite the opposite now.

It would be useful if we can create a thread to review the book which we read to provide honest opinion for others to guide
