What is expected in India's 2019 election?
Is BJP already expected to come into power again? Will Modi's charm work again?
Is it better for Congress to take over alone or as a mahagathbandhan?

What is expected in India's 2019 election?

To answer truthfully next year General election is still a year away. We all know voters tends to remember the recent activities. Therefore it is very much likely a new issue may emerge and which may affect the outcome.
If the conditions remains same, BJP is strong contender to emerge winner.
So far as congress is concerned it has to work very hard to be in contention, which at present look remote. It will be wise for congress to form coalition or Mahagathbandhan. But it remains to be seen how much leverage it gives to othe partners. So far as present scenario goes, Congress wants Lion's share, which is doing harm for Congress.

Thanks for your views!

I'm of the opinion that neither option is good, in all honesty. With BJP, the issue is 'Absolute power corrupts absolutely' - they're already in power in most states and with another 5 years, there's no guarantee how things would go!

As for Congress, I feel that they would fare better if they did not form a mahagatbandhan, Bihar being a case in point. There would be too much infighting and chaos. If Congress sees the sense in having level-headed party members (I don't know, maybe someone like Shashi Tharoor?) guiding Rahul, things wouldn't be so bad after all.

But yes, there's still time left to see how things change in the meantime.

I personally don't think it will be a cakewalk for BJP this time...Regional party will be the Kingmaker, not Congress

Yup, it won't be easy - but would people reall trust a bunch of regional leaders, each with his/her own amibition and needless to mention, an eye on the PM seat? My hunch is that BJP would narrowly scrape through next year.

Maxmuhal, I am also interested in politics, sport and journalism so I hope to enjoy interrogating you and adding my own input.

My first question is what are your thoughts on the Indian hockey team again becoming what it once was in the Olympics between 1928-1960.

At the time they won all 30 matches, scored 197 goals and only conceded eight.

Dear Rushcourt71 thanks for your thought provoking question. In my opinion Indian Hockey team is slowly but surely coming up to the top level. They have shown their merit in the recently concluded Champions Trophy when they finished runner up, losing to Australia in the shoot out. It really was a heartbreak for India as they miss out on Champions Trophy title. This was the last time it was played - despite exhibiting a superb game of hockey during the entire 60 minutes of play in the final, the luck didn't go in India's favour in shootout two years back and it played the spoilsport again after two years.

Coach Harendra Singh has brought a much needed cheerful atmosphere in the team and is paying rich dividends. There was a time when the changeover from grass to astro turf bring India down to its knees from the top position. Teams like Australia, Holland, Spain, Argentina and other foreign teams with their higher fitness level rode to the paths of glory and India with its skill was left high and dry. Numerous change of Coaches didn't helped either. But India faught back, and faught back with feocity. Now they are force to recon with in field Hockey. I think it is a matter of time only when India will be at top. It isn't that they are not, but they will be Undisputed King of Hockey once again. Cheers..

Thanks Bro for your quite detailed description about Indian hockey. Something you may want to get used to is that I will quickly turn to other unrelated topics and 'interview' or ask questions about that as well.

My next question is

Can India overtake the Chinese economy in 10-15 years and become what China is now.

By this I mean

-The EU has been bailed out a few times through enormous loans from China

-There are Chinatowns in every country of the world

-China is helping developing world countries to build railways that cross one part of the nation with the other

-The interest free loans China is providing Developing World nations is cutting the need for previous IMF conditionalities to be met and making them less dependent on western aid

-Chinese business and trade missions in Africa have meant more jobs for natives, greater economic leverage and higher dividends for indigenous industries

Will India achieve or aim to achieve something similar as the Chinese economy and the National income are rapidly expanding and outpacing many others in this regard within the last few years.
