We've all picked books with zero expectations and were left pleasantly surprised.
I recently picked Ghachar Ghochar that came highly recommended. Most of the "highly recommended" books have been big disappointments. But this simple novella about "it's not we who control the money, it's the money that controls us" has a lot of soul.
Receiver of Many and Destroyer of Light by Rachel Alexander. It's a myth-fic based on Hades and Persephone. I had been recommended that book long back, scrounged it here on Craxme and fell in love with it. It's very rare that you see Greek Pantheon represented for who they were, they usually are judged on ideals of Abhrahamics. I enjoyed the books and am looking forward to its sequels.
"A Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth. It came highly recommended but I had put off reading it for a couple years simply because when I looked at its size, I asked myself, "Will I ever be able to finish it?" But once I started it, I really enjoyed it thoroughly right through to the end. I wouldn't mind reading it again!
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion, Out of my mind by Sharon Draper, The caller by Chris Carter, Confessions by Kanae Minato, Battle Royale by Koushun Takami, Inspector Imanishi invetigates by Seicho Matsumoto, A Simple plan by Scott Smith, Out by Natsuo Kirino...to name some of my readings which I started with Zero expectations but was taken by surprise and proved to be engaging a delightful reads.
Riding the Raisina tiger by Rohit Agarwal. Its a story of millitary coup in India. The story is captivating and the reader gets connected with the theme. Equally strong is the ending too which gives food for thought to the readers.
