ALTHOUGH the concept of self-motivation is quite obscure when compared to inspirational stuff, it has been found to be indispensable in this jet age where the world progresses so fast that the passing time is a blur.
In fact, after being inspired, one still needs to be motivated to take action. Think about it.
You get inspired when you see the sufferings of people around you. You want to do something, but you still need a 'push' to begin actions that would alleviate their hapless state(s).

"Inspiration gives you the big picture.
Motivation is the fuel you need to make the small jumps towards accomplishment of the goals."

That said, here are five (5) proven ways you can self-motivate.

My grandmother used to tell me, when I was still a child, that in the world there are basically 2 types of people: those who are sheep and those who are tigers. Obviously, sheep are those who are led, respond to a group behavior, generally do not have a thought of their own and adopt the thinking of their pastor or leader, they are submissive and finally have no more aspirations in life than just auguring their livelihood without doing anything relevant in their lifes.
In contrast, people who are tigers, are a minority, generally respond to their own interests and thoughts, have self-determination and self-confidence, are generally independent and self-sufficient and they seek to be the best.
Certainly she was right in part, when she also said that people are finally, how they have been educated and trained by their parents and their environment.
That means that nothing could be determined, that is, there is no deterministic conception to be tiger or sheep. That is something that is built and developed under certain factors, the family, education, the environment, do not determine it, but the will of the person to assume their condition and try to change it. Obviously, no change has an effect if there is no genuine will to change.
Self-motivation can help achieve that change, but unfortunately it is not the master key that will open all doors, that is, self-motivation requires a firm commitment and willpower that provides the ability to persist and get up when falls occur... Can self-motivation turn a sheep into a tiger? Yes it can, but not in essence.
The previous step to self-motivation is the application of self-knowledge, the ability to be self-absorbed, that is, the capacity to recognize oneself, one's own nature, one's own strengths and weaknesses. Self-motivation does not work if the bases, its foundations are not solid. First it is necessary to recognize one's limitations. Raising high goals, it is useless, when you do not have the ability to achieve those goals, self-motivation helps but by itself does not work when the limitations (mental, intellectual, cognitive, psychological) are greater.
Before undertaking a change, be sure to build solid foundations that sustain over time the change you have set out to achieve.
