In Germany it is not illegal to try to escape from prison (because the Germans argue) it’s basic human instinct to be free.

So when convicts try to escape, do they even punish them? Will they even look for them if they escape? If so, they are basically saying the government themselves are breaking the law!

I can see your perspective, it does seem a little illogical even from a legal lens.

These are western nations, the countries the US and the rest of tghe so called developed world wants us to take as role models- in short the 'civilised world'.
