What is this flower called. Received this potted plant as a gift, withered away inspite of best efforts. Probably couldn't stand the humidity & heat here.

As already stated, it is dahlia. It is mostly a flower of winter season in my country. So, both heat and humidity is a big "NO" for this flower. Probably that is why it withered away. Sorry for your lost effort.
