We have the Man Booker Prize Longlist for international fiction. Indians are not far behind in coming up with one for Indian fiction. Here is the JCB Prize for Literature longlist announced today for the year 2018. How many of these have you read?

* Half the Night is Gone
* Jasmine Days
* Clouds
* Poonachi
* Jasoda
* All the Lives We Never Lived
* When the Moon Shines by Day
* Latitudes of Longing
* The Book of Chocolate Saints
* Empire

None. Though I've been meaning to buy Poonachi and Chocolate Saints for a long time. Poonachi was only 90 bucks in Flipkart a while ago, but I didn't get it because I have way too many books, a long reading list and not the right mood to read.

I'm generally wary of literature awards and prizes. At the end of the day, no matter what prize or award it is, it's a small group of judges who decide what's supposed to be best. I'd like to see a writer who writes really well and stays away from all kinds of awards and prizes. That'd be nice.

I'm not against the idea of awards. Authors deserve to be appreciated. It is the rigged ones that are an issue.

Poonachi was on the first reader's delight list at Amazon. But I picked The Brahmin instead.

I have read Half the Night is Gone on Juggernaut App when the book was released in Episodes. It was quite a story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If one is looking for a good literature I would definitely recommend it.

I really enjoyed it. @itshcb had shared an excellent review at the book club in July. You must check it out.
