A much awaited thread! It is time to nominate the group read for August 2018. As per the schedule, we would be reading a book from the Mythological Fiction genre next month. Thank you all who participated in the previous group reads. Get your nominations in for our next pick.

A few pointers

Nominations belonging to the Mythological Fiction genre would be the only ones considered.

Nominate only those books that are available at Craxme.

Please nominate/second only one book.

Do not nominate a book from the middle of a series, unless it can be read standalone.

Be kind enough to nominate the correct title

I will start

I will nominate 3 (Three) by Krishna Udayshankar

This is a review from Goodreads

A hero sets sail.

An island is found.

A nation is born.

Early thirteenth century CE. The Srivijaya Empire, considered to be one of the world's greatest maritime forces, has been abruptly left powerless in a swift political exchange.

With nothing but a meaningless crown, a once-lauded navy and the will to keep alive the name of Srivijaya against the endless onslaughts of old enemies and ambitious neighbours, Emperor Prabhu Dharmasena and his kin leave behind their island realm to traverse the seas, desperate and homeless.

Among those who sail with him is the Emperor's youngest son, Nila Utama, for whom loyalty and honour have ceased to have meaning since he saw his father forsake their beloved land. Now, all that is left to do is survive...

...or so Nila thinks, till a voyage across turbulent seas brings him to a fishing village, where the headstrong prince, so far insistent on keeping to the shadows, is forced to step up to his responsibility, face his old demons and discover what it truly means to be a king.

Based on the founding legend of the island of Singapore, also known as Singapura or the Lion City, 3 is an engrossing tale - told in an exquisitely rich voice - of love, self-realization and adventure on the high seas.

My first choice would be 'Mrityunjaya' - The story of Karna, by Shivaji Sawant. The original was in Marathi but there are translated versions in English. Unfortunately, I haven't found it in e-book version and so cant nominate that here. But if you get a chance to find it in a library, dont miss out on reading it.

My nomination would be 'Vishwamitra' by Vineet Aggarwal. The story of a Kshatriya becoming a Brahmarishi. Amazing read.

I have read it atleast 7-8 times during my school days in Marathi..... And is still my all time favourite.
Would be great if I can read it again in Marathi too

Something similar was Inqilaab by Mrinalini Joshi. If you could get hold of it somehow

Sita - An Illustrated Retelling of the Ramayana by Devdutt Pattanaik. A must read for mythology enthusiasts. It is not available at the forum(I tried searching), but it is just a Google Search away.

I want to be away from the epics for some time. So many versions and stories on Ramayana and Mahabharata that its getting monotonous. So something different.

Purely my opinion, feel free to disagree

With me it is quite the opposite. I had taken a break from myth-fics. What better time to get back to it.

I am not talking about taking a break from Myth-Fiction but I'm talking about the Epic based books like I said

What say ?

I guess I misread it. It would be a limited choice. It depends on the books nominated and the one voted.
