I prefer e books. There is no way I could have 6, 000 plus books in my home without them taking up too much space.

However at the same time, I have no issue with the same number currently on my kindle devices.

Books are special, they will keep their content for a very long time. We have some old books at home but not sure if they are still for reading or just looking at. I was convinced that I wouldn't read from an ereader at all because turning pages and understanding how much there is left in a book you can only get from real paper. But then vacation came and beach time. And I wouldn't really want to take the hard copies to the beach. So there is an ereader now.

It's a Tolino, simply because it's not hooked up with Amazon and I can use it for ebooks from the public library which isn't possible with a Kindle.

I love print books. The way it feels in our hands and the smell of the paper, it's sort of like a romance.
As so many of you pointed out earlier, e- books and e- readers have their benefits but, nothing else can evoke the feeling of nostalgia when you pick up one of your old favourites, hold them in your hands and read them.

e readers-- more convinient to carry along, easier to store titles, curate content and most of all read late in the night when everyone else wants to sleep

I'll give my opinion by way of a very funny incident.

My husband gifted me a Kindle on our second marriage anniversary and I promptly bought a Kindle Unlimited subscription in addition to a few e-books. My Kindle became my lifeline and I carried it everywhere I went.

Last year, we went on a trip to Ladakh with my in-laws and I carried my Kindle with me, as usual, marvelling at the thought that I could carry so many books without adding on to the weight of my luggage.

Now Ladakh has very negligible internet connection. The hotel where we were staying had a very erratic wifi connection. And, like a complete idiot, I switched off the Airplane mode on my Kindle. And whoosh! My entire book collection was mysteriously wiped out! And it was just Day 1! I spent a week in Ladakh WITHOUT any books! Daytime was still bearable as we did a lot of sightseeing but nights were a torture as I never go to sleep without reading....even if it is for 30 minutes.

This incident made me appreciate print books a lot!

I have now made up my mind to carry a paperback alongwith my Kindle whenever I travel to avoid such situations in future!

If only kindle can add back few features....
1 Music player
2 Smell of the spine glue and the ageing paper
3 Rustling of the paper while turning the page

Then it would be great......

Just a thought

I use an iPad and this has never happened to me. Even in Ladakh. I put my ebooks on the device itself and not in the cloud. Another point, if you have bought an ebook for Kindle, it becomes yours. Should not get wiped out if on your device. I have an old Kindle with me which I always keep on off-line mode. I can still read my books on it. So I suggest you check your settings or ask someone to suggest a proper approach. May be true for unlimited subscription since it needs to check whether you are a subscriber, but not for books you have paid for.

Did anyone mention the environmental savings and the ease of replication (piracy??) and distribution?
