Ertugrul. This Turkish TV series reveals the origins, era, culture, perceptions and regional realities of a man who would go on to become the father of Usman I; in short the Turkish Empire (1288-1924).

While it has several grave historical inaccuracies (especially as the original character is not so well known outside of Turkey), the series is revealing because it shows to 21st century audiences how nomadic tribes or set of tribes lived and evolved, interacted with the outside world, developed over time and how they eventually became a state.
