We do offer e-books as well as paper books for our patrons, but only in limited amount (we have ab ...

I agree about non-fictions. They are a pain on e-readers unless they diagrams/charts are converted properly.

Pardon my ignorance, I was not aware that libraries lend entertainment videos too. Libraries in India are mostly particular in that regard with educational videos only. Netflix would definitely would have an impact there, since more people are into the visual stuff than reading.

In most european countries we offer both entertainment and educational movies.
In a lot of (mostly the west-)euro countries we also offer videogames (mostly the bigger libraries/cities though) which is something the public is very unaware of really. One of my jobs is trying to promote ourselves as more than books - since that IS how most of the public sees us, so no need to pardon ;)

That's commendable. Your one-stop solution to fiction, non-fiction, entertainment, gaming...
Managing would be a daunting task!

EBooks are just cheaper and easier to lug around. Have a lot of hard copy books but haven't bought one in a while.

I was not aware of that.
I agree with jhsurti, managing it all would be quite a daunting task.

There is really nothing to compare to the feel and, yes, even the smell of a "real" book.
Large format photographic books, facsimile reproductions, leather bindings - all of these are impossible on my beloved Kindle!!
One thing does not mean there is no place for the other: for convenience, transportability, ease of storage, built in dictionaries for those "difficult" words - an e-book reader wins every time BUT it will NEVER have the magic of holding a paper book in your hands  .....

It is about ownership now than actual reading? Thoughts?

One place where the seniors prefer technology! I think there may be reasons for them like - light weight(aging with problems of spondylosis etc. makes it easir to hold a ligher object to a heavier physical book), eye-sight factors(zooming in the fonts is less strenuos to their eyes), single device holding many books(They might wish to change the subject of what they are reading now and then to avoid monotony), built-in dictionary(they don't have to put an effort to pick up a dictionary to check a word) and all the pros we discussed in the previous threads. Another factor may or may not be relevant could be that as you grow older you tend to become thrifty and save money and ebooks are cheaper(if one buys them that is). Younger generation spend easily for what they love and wish to have. The younger generation has just started on the feel of the physical books and are fascinated by it, the older generation have already had their time with it and can easily get over that feeling over convenience.

doesn't matter as long as I get to read. I actually have no preference. One can't deny the fact that e readers have made getting books a lot easier. Earlier, I would have to go look for a particular book all over the city and still would end up without getting the book.
