Earlier I used to read one book at a time. Found it difficult when I got stuck with some book. After ...

This is exactly the reason why I switched to reading multiple books too. I would get stuck with a book, and would have a "readers block" of sort.

I read multiple books when I'm unhappy with the current book I'm reading but hesitating to give up on it midway (maybe memories of days when buying books was expensive?). I promise I'll come back to it, but sometimes don't.

reading multiple books keeps off the monotony for me. But if a book is too engaging, i finish that book at one go

I'm a slow reader so I just can read one book at a time...

I belong to the 1st group...1 book at a time...

I get into a character in the story i read...I feel it is good for me to read just 1 at a time...that way i can do full justice to my imagination too ;)

Been there done that.
When its a combination of non-fiction and fiction, then it is okay to follow the crux of the books. But reading same genre books at a time, is a tough job. Maybe short stories collections can be read this way, not novels etc.

Well, whatever floats my boat, I guess.
I switch between both modes, and it depends on the quality and appeal of the book/s for me.
though, to be honest, multiple mode is nothing but a way to withhold the anchor of my attention. This usually afflicts me when I have to review and analyze books for formal, professional commitments and projects.

well it is again all about interest and what you are reading. if it is top heavy technical stuff, I would prefer to read more than one book to feel lees dense at times. If not, hang on to the one if it is interesting and not look at another till I  finish reading
