I am interested in biographies of real life people, both past and present. Those from faraway lands, unusual or disadvantaged backgrounds show some promise since it gives us a glimpse of their struggles, triumphs and aspirations.

In that respect I would recommend-

1. The biography of the Queen of Hawaii, where one can learn how the islands were run, organised and structured until 1893.

That year it was usurped by the US through American businessmen posing as friends and altruistic well wishers in the first imperial removal of a legitimate government and monarchy by Uncle Sam.

Something different maybe. About how technology may change our (or others) future and what may happen if and when we're looking to achieve singularity. Maybe have a look at Frank Schätzing's book "The tyranny of the butterfly".

It's actually a kind of crime/mystery book wrapped around this topic. I didn't finish it so far but found the ideas and concepts interesting especially when the machine says: "i could explain it to you, but you wouldn't understand it".
