It's an interesting series, and the Kashyap stamp is obvious on Gaitonde storyline. Motwane is not so strong on nuance, but he's delivered a fair game.
I haven't read the book, though I've had it on my radar for a long time. This is just the spur to do it finally.
The supporting performances are pretty great, almost across the board. Technically the series is apt and well designed. I must say that the craft quality has gone up several notches in Bollywood, at least the cinematography, art design, lighting and editing parts. Bold, yes, brimming with cuss, yes, adult, hell yes.
Just wondering, Gaitonde's voiceover narration: is it storytelling liberty or conceit? I'm not exactly nitpicking about it, though. I'm much willing to go with the flow.
To note, it is pretty strong, has a somewhat compelling snarky, blackly comic story and notes to it. It's also obvious fodder for the impending media-politics controversy on the verge of eruption, in real life, such as it is.
My puzzlement is thus: Where exactly is the context for his narration, who is he narrating it to, when does it occur... and so on. Has anyone read the book and throw light on how this fits with the foreground plot shenanigans? I expect it all ties up by the end, at least.
What do you all feel about the theme? What do you think it is, and what of its central argument? |
