Reading in poor lighting or wrong posture is also hazardous for eyes and neck/back for paper books too. It's always a good idea to read in a well-lit room. I personally feel though, that Kindle poses much less eye strain than reading off a tablet, because of the backlit tablet screen.

I prefer digital book primarily that many books can be stored in minimum space. You can also make a note in word format & mist importantly, you can share your views & important learning with many. Only problem with digital book us the restriction in time in continuous reading as it effects eyes. But I purchase physical book of wide repute.
Well that's a classic question, isn't it? To be frank, I like both the formats but slightly i am in favor of Physical books - they have their own beauty!!
From all the replies, what i have understood is, the format is for convenience and it differs from individual to individual. Yes, the pride of having own library is way above of having a collection of eBooks. Physical books can be shared, but through Craxme even digital books can be shared.
So ultimately the format is not that important.. Having ability to write and read books is One of the things which makes us wiser than other animals. so keep reading and keep sharing good books.
I prefer digital formats such as Kindle and IPad because of the convenience and because you can carry more than 1000 titles in one small device. Depending on your mood, you can then read these titles.
I prefer physical books the aroma of the pages drive me crazy. But it is not possible to collect all the physical books since cash is involved. So I revert to digital books.
Also it is not possible to store physical books for lengthy period of time.
