Chetan Bhagat has now started writing movie scripts and not books. The scripts are published as book ...

Yup, it looks like his focus is on movies now.
5 point someone was new and interesting despite the average writing. And then he started using the same formula across the books... everything after that range from mediocre to annoying. Needless to mention, the epidemic of IITians flooding the book market began with him...

Amish is wildly popular, it's just him who has benefitted from his books.
For others to benefit from his work would mean that former derived their works from his style of writing.
The flag bearers of Mythological Fiction have not been influenced by his work.
To be influenced, there has to be someting unique about him. Style or world building or redefining of a genre, Amish has none
He's genius to have crafted ways to market his work, that's his only uniqueness
Devdutt Pattanaik's work was adapted by Nikhil SInha for Star Plus' super successful and classy Mythological Show "Siya Ke Ram"
His work served as the basis of Television's most exquisite Mythological Show "Devon ke Dev Mahadev"
Mahakali Anth hi Aarambh Hai on Colors and Star Plus' Mahabharata too gained a lot from Devdutt's work.
Having said that, Mahakali show's writing is superlative. I believe a better writing has not been around in decades for a TV show
And I have just listed one author. If you people allow me, there are plenty of qualities that I can put forth to validate the class act of other lesser known but far superior writers

I am not saying Devadutta wrote like Amish or joined the bandwagon but I want to say that Amish is the author (love him or hate him ) who popularized mytho fiction. The other authors irrespective of their merits have been benefitted by it. And yes Devadutta and Banker are much more accomplished writers

Let me confess I did not expect Amish Tripathi to top the list. Will be back with my two cents later. Work beckons .

@Danielle: Feel free to share your thoughts .

I dislike the man. Him along with Neelkantan and Naithani. They simply screw Indian sagas to suit their narrative. And out of this lot Naithani is an arrogant asshole who cannot take criticism.

I conquer.

Love or or hate the man, but no one can deny that it indeed is Amish Tripathi who brought back myth-fic in the limelight. Before his book there was hardly any novel in this genre. The only worth mentioning book was Vayam Rakshama by Acharya Chatursen. With coming of Tripathi, a floodgate was opened and we got so many brilliant writers thereafter.

I haven't read Naithani nor heard of him. I like a few of Devdutt's but I hated the one book of Neelkantan that I read - Asura.

Vyam Raksham by Acharya Chatursen?

Is that the only work on Mytho-fiction before Amish Tripathi according to you?
Allow me to list the works of two Authors
Ramdhari Singh Dinkar
1.        Kurukshetra (1946)
2.        Rashmirathi (1952)
3.        Urvashi (1961)
4.        Parashuram ki Pratiksha (1963)

JaiShankar Prasad
5.        Kāmāyanī
6.        Janmejay kā yagya
7.        Skandagupta
8.        Chandragupta
9.        Dhruvasvāminī

This is the work of just two writers.
Author's popularity and impact on a genre means nothing to this conversation (I don't believe there is any impact of Amish Tripathi)
The discussion on this Thread is about authors which are popular but the users answering this thread find them repulsive
Had they not been popular, we would not have listed them

Moreover, I have written about Amish more than I had thought I would
Please don't get me wrong. I have nothing against him.
He's not my favorite. I would not want to talk anymore about him

Thanks

I always wanted to read Ramdharisinh Dinkar's "Sanskruti Ke Char Adhyay" but couldn't lay my hands on a decent copy.

@Danielle I talked about Vayam Rakshama because that was the only heavily popularized book in the genre before it got all glam and limelighted. The other books that you have mentioned, I can bet my money on it that most people wouldn't even have heard of it.

Jayshankar Prasad's works are historical fiction and not myth-fic per say. Add to it, I don't personally like his writing style either. Dhruvswamini could be so much but it got reduced to just another tale. IMO the era when it was written had a lot to do with what it turned out to be.
