My English professor had once commented that he'd rather gauge his eye out than read the monstrosity that is Chetan Bhagat's book. The guy has zero creative outlook or a creative bone. He simply slaps any and everything that gets into his mind. And don't even get me started on his "self-worship". If he can be a bestsellar author then I am a goddess incarnate for sure.

Is he really that bad? He must be doing something right, since Amazon Publishing has signed a six book deal with him.... three fictions and three non-fictions. I hear the first one comes out in October.

The thing with Chetan Bhagat is he is a very predictable writer. You can already tell the end of the story somewhere in the middle of first chapter itself. He has no creative streak in him, writes in a very incoherent way, doesn't dress up his language and uses one single trope. You'd find the situations and characters and their dilemmas repeating themselves over and over again. In short I am surprised he can qualify as a writer.
He tries to sell the same product over and over without any nuance to it. He is into marketing and thinks he can sell anything! May be because his books are very easy reads, 'time-pass' chalta hai and he makes the moolah!
Not to forget that most of his books are picked up by Bollywood. When I read One Indian Girl, it was hard to believe it was written by the same author who wrote the book version of 3 Idiots.
When his first book "Five Point Someone" hit the shelves, the subject was fresh, all who had lived in hostels at some time could identify with the characters, it showed some creativity and the language was simple(nothing literary about it). It picked up. But he then failed to create something new. And it has been downhill since then.
I find the same with Robin Cook or John Grisham. Their latter books are nowhere near their initial writings.
I have read the book and quite enjoyed it. But did not like how the series ended. One man's loss and thousands of innocent people had to die for it. Nothing justifies that.

I think the same has been the case with Amish's books too. When the Immortals of Meluha came out, it was a relatively new concept. Now with dozens of authors jumping on the bandwagon, his current series did not have the same kind of impact.
