Good to know there are others on the same boat.

It is often said reading multiple books at a time r ...

I honestly feel that there is no difference in my retention capacity whether I read one at a time or many - I have a very average memory. I need to read any book a few times at least to remember the plot or characters after a long time. So far, I can still vaguely remember the plots/content of all the books I've been reading since a few months back and that's more than what I can ask for!

I agree with the cheating ourselves bit. We all have our reading style. I read a lot of non-fiction ...

I somehow feel the compulsion to read a book from cover to cover. Especially since I got up on goodreads a few years ago and started taking their book challenges. It's the honor system and I can't bring myself to cheat on that count, as it were.

But, of course, I realize that this is irrational and I think the better thing to do here might be to dip in and out of non-fiction on a need basis. (I too like my knowledge direct like that. I mean, you can learn a few things through a story, yes, but it is a pretty roundabout way of doing it and there is only so much time to go around). I am very choosy about my fiction and I just can't bring myself to read thrash. I like literary fiction. Like, of late, I read "the small-town sea" by anees salim and liked it, but it's not everyone's cuppa. Like definitely not for the type of people who get off to - say Jonathan Sanford's "rey" series. (You'll never catch me dead reading that shit. Although I have read the odd Jeffrey Archer or the Dan Brown. I think, when it comes to thrillers, you're better off watching the movie. Done and dusted in 2 hours! I mean, let's face it, you're not reading it for the writing. You're just flipping pages to see what happens next. With the movie, at least you've got the background music to help you along!

Well i usually read books from my favorite authors or books that piques my interest..so i end up in a state where i would not like to move before completing the book..so multiple books at a time is not for me..

Mostly single at a time. But I always have short stories/anthologies on my mobile for quick read during boring functions/meetings/get-togethers.

Earlier I used to read one book at a time. Found it difficult when I got stuck with some book. After reading Stephen Guise's "Mini Habits - Smaller habits Bigger results", cultivated the habit of reading at least three books simultaneously.
