I agree with the cheating ourselves bit. We all have our reading style. I read a lot of non-fiction ...
I somehow feel the compulsion to read a book from cover to cover. Especially since I got up on goodreads a few years ago and started taking their book challenges. It's the honor system and I can't bring myself to cheat on that count, as it were.
But, of course, I realize that this is irrational and I think the better thing to do here might be to dip in and out of non-fiction on a need basis. (I too like my knowledge direct like that. I mean, you can learn a few things through a story, yes, but it is a pretty roundabout way of doing it and there is only so much time to go around). I am very choosy about my fiction and I just can't bring myself to read thrash. I like literary fiction. Like, of late, I read "the small-town sea" by anees salim and liked it, but it's not everyone's cuppa. Like definitely not for the type of people who get off to - say Jonathan Sanford's " rey" series. (You'll never catch me dead reading that shit. Although I have read the odd Jeffrey Archer or the Dan Brown. I think, when it comes to thrillers, you're better off watching the movie. Done and dusted in 2 hours! I mean, let's face it, you're not reading it for the writing. You're just flipping pages to see what happens next. With the movie, at least you've got the background music to help you along!
