Is Diwali similar or the same in its manner of celebration among Sikhs and Hindus. By this I mean ev ...

It is not celebrated in the same way, apart from the lights and the fireworks. Lakshmi Puja is performed by only Hindus on Diwali day.

Long before it began to be celebrated as Bandi Chod Diwas, the third Guru declared that three Hindu festivals to be celebrated by Sikhs... Diwali, Makar Sankranti and Vaisakhi.

There is another reason why Hindu festivals are celebrated by Sikhs. Up until a few generations back.... in the times of undivided Punjab.... it was fairly common for Hindu girls to be married into Sikh families and vice versa. And they were allowed to retain their religious identities. The Hindu women brought along their customs and traditions into the Sikh families. That is the reason you see festivals like rakhi and karwa chauth celebrated by a number of Sikhs.

I find that very odd. Why would a Sikh Guru condone and even encourage the celebration of religious festivals of another faith while claiming to be separate, independent (and perhaps even better as a different religion) from them.
