Ikea have done their research. They would not have chosen India if they did not deem it worthy of their services. As with any multinational giant and major investor, no one selects a market they are unlikely to profit in and big.

As the article says, India has a large middle class and is home to a growing number of entrepreneurs, corporations and other huge industries. They can all make money, form partnerships and respond positively to the global shift in commerce.

The question should not be will the move be successful, but as sakhi suggested, who will follow and how quickly.

IKEA is supposedly producing goods to be sold worldwide for the last 30 years in India. I guess it's about time to open a shop and sell their "affordable high quality furniture" also there. IKEA also adopted its food offering to Indian requirements and while it's the biggest furniture shop it's generally also the biggest restaurant in the locations where they are. I would say, they will also make it in India.

Yes it will definitely go a very long way.. though it would have been much ideal for it to have entered India from Mumbai or NCR... !!

I think it will eventually. I feel that the Indian attitude to DIY has to change first

"Indians are very price sensitive, but they're also value sensitive. You can't give them substandard quality at cheaper rates. They want both," says Paresh Parekh, partner at Ersnt & Young. ----It's true
