Are your referring to Dasarajna by Ashok Banker?

I agree with you about the marketing. People are not really aware that myth fic books beyond the Ramayan and Mahabharat exist.

You seem to be very angry with a lot of writers which people find really good..... I agree with  ...

I have a bone to pick with so many people for sure. LOL!

Well you are absolutely right about marketing. I have come across so many writers who were really good but never had any promotion or marketing for their books; this when their books were practically TV/movie ready. It's sad to see mediocrity being appreciated so much when you have researched and well put together book out there as well. I get why some novels worked given its unique content but others were just banking on the success of this genre!

Even when these writers pick Ramayan and Mahabharat they just talk about the main characters. Both these epics house so many small stories and snippets that connect the two together. All these small details are so missed and we end up with just another rendition of the said epics.

Books written by Christopher C. Doyle can be added in the list as well. They are based on Indian Mythology and very well written.

Yes, people like Rajiv Malhotra for instance are not known to many. I think we need people and authors who can take out facts like Rajiv does and then weave a story arround it making it more interesting for average reader, thereby reaching a much larger audience too. Also translation to local dialects would give a fillip to readership and popularity serving the dual purpose of reaching to masses and transmitting the message to a wider audience. I mean people like you, me have access to more resources and an open mind to read and accept new facts but there are many who dont

My problem is that we are getting overdose of the POV books from Ramayan and Mahabharat.... Comeon, I mean Indian mythology is beyond that too.
Read Yayati by VS Khandekar, Raja Ravi Verma and few others in Marathi whichI like to read still.

Yayati: A Classic Tale of Lust by Vishnu Sakharam Khandekar

Thanks for the suggestions and the links, guys!

@divey: Ditto. Authors (or publishers) tend to target the English speaking India, whereas there is a market elsewhere too. Even classes for that matter.

As for the list, I fail to understand why The Palace of Illusions makes the list everywhere. It reads more like a fan-fiction.
