It's a sad, painful read and I wonder if we are not too late, too callous and too indifferent to save this wonder? Forget institutional apathy, even as individuals, we are just too supremely selfish making hand-hearts with the Taj in the backdrop, pinching the taj with its spire, and then, littering trash all over it.The Supreme Court of India has been crying hoarse for over two decades (M. C. Mehta v. Union of India, 1996). And to what end?

It's a pity that one of our tourist attraction is not taken care of. It's monumental apathy. Small countries in Europe, Middle East draw so many tourists and earn billion of dollars through tourism. Hope that our government will wake up.

Does anyone know how many people visit the Taj Mahal per year?

I have heard the Golden Temple receives more visitors than the Taj Mahal.
