There have been very few movies that actually bettered the book - Forrest Gump and Fight Club are examples! With LOTR I believe movie made justice to Tolkien's world, but I still would not call the movie better!

I sometimes get confused with the characters in a book like and have to go back in the book to check him out. But I always 1st read the book and then watch the movie.

Along with the shawshank redemption, I think Lord of the rings is one of the very rare movies which is actually better than the book.. I have always preferred books to movies. Obviously, there are a few exceptions to this like the movies I have mentioned just now.
