We all have favourite authors and books. But there is always that one book (or books) that you cannot stop raving about. And perhaps read it multiple times and highly recommend.
I read this book called 'True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle' and fell in love with it. It is YA fiction.
Pearl S. Buck's 'Good Earth' gave me goosebumps. The story has been narrated so expertly that I was literally transported there. I remember feeling utterly jealous of her writing skills while reading it.
I'm sure there are quite a few others that had this effect on me, but these are the books I read in the past year and still remember vividly.
I guess this is a difficult question to answer. There have been books that we read at different stages of life that affected us differently at those points of time. So at least I cannot point to one book. But a couple of books that I immediately remembered on reading this, must be the ones that lasted an impression. They are both by Eric Segal - The Doctors and The Class. I can definitely add A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth to the list. These are the books I can read again and again and not tire.

I read The Good Earth years back. It is a simple book in a sense.... bit disturbing at times... bu ...
Yeah, what's intriguing about this book is how the story is disturbing and none of the characters are likeable, yet the book left such a strong impression. I think it takes a very talented writer to make a memorable story without 'nice' people.

I agree. It is easier to write about larger than life characters or ones that the reader can empathize with.
It was pretty open ended. Did Wang Lung appreciate O-Lan, or was she just a slave for him? The authors seems to have left it for the reader decide that.
