Can culture, any one in particular or in general ever be truly protected or preservedforever? This question popped up in my mind when I was having a conversationwith an acquaintance who the current social media may label a “bhakt”. He said,“The whole world envies us because we still preserve our ancient culture andtraditions. We can show the rest of the world he way to the future.” I asked himwhich culture he was referring to, for there is not just one cultureflourishing in India. He referred to the familiar pre-Islamic cultures of thesubcontinent. “Those were the golden days” he continued; “the real culture”.”Forever?”Iasked.”Why not? If we protect it, it will flourish forever!”

Though I gethis concept of cultural unity through the ages, we have heard of cultures beingborn, wiped out by invasions and regenerated in new forms. But does any culturestill remain across the times? Which aspects will remain? Which will change? Will efforts to protect them succeed?

Just a thought.

If we want to protect our culture then we can but if we choose to ignore it then slowly it might be forgotten.

Many invasions happened and attempts were made to destroy our culture in indian subcontinent but still we are keeping our culture alive is probably the proof that we don't go down easy.

Though our culture is still alive but it is not same as it is in past, many traditions have been forgotten cause of invasions and in ancient times afghanistan, pakistan and bangladesh were part of India together known as akhand bharat. Compare akhand bharat to today's India. We literally lost a huge part of it.

basically ideas , social customs and practices constitute culture. These do undergo change with time as fresh ideas and customs are absorbed. but additions do not necessarily mean a complete change and many of these remain as they are handed down as part of tradition.they remain in geographies, families and above all form part of the human psyche. hence natural preservation follows unless an entire civilization gets destroyed but the destroyer assimilates good ideas of the destroyed or what suits them . So culture continues to live on these linkages.
