A study of UBI trials concludes that making cash payments to all is no solution to poverty and inequality.

▼ A study published this weeksheds doubt on ambitious claims made for universal basic income (UBI), the scheme that would give everyone regular, unconditional cash payments that are enough to live on. Its  advocates claimit would help to reduce poverty, narrow inequalities and tackle the effects of automation on jobs and income. Research conducted for Public Services International, a global trade union federation, reviewed for the first time 16 practical projects that have tested different ways of distributing regular cash payments to individuals across a range of poor, middle-income and rich countries, as well as copious literature on the topic.
It could find no evidence to suggest that such a scheme could be sustained for all individuals in any country in the short, medium or longer term – or that this approach could achieve lasting improvements in  wellbeing or equality. The research confirms the importance of generous, non-stigmatising income support, but everything turns on how much money is paid, under what conditions and with what consequences for the welfare system as a whole.
From Kenya and southern India to Alaska and Finland, cash payment schemes have been claimed to show that UBI “works”. In fact, what’s been tested in practice is almost infinitely varied, with cash paid at different levels and intervals, usually well below the poverty line and mainly to individuals selected because they are severely disadvantaged, with funds provided by charities, corporations and development agencies more often than by governments.
Experiments in India and Kenya have been funded, respectively, by Unicefand Give Directly, a US charity supported by Google. They give money to people on very low incomes in selected villages for fixed periods of time.  (▪ ▪ ▪)

It may help to consider the following
- anything given free is not generally respected or valued
- free money makes one lazy
- free money must only b given to people who r relatively disadvantaged where the period of giving depends on their capability to find a job. e.g. orphans may need it till they reach employability and finding an employment post education must b set as a target , old people may need it till demise. Widows or women with no or low support system may get it with a target to skill themselves in a variety of ways to support themselves. The ill may need it till they repair their health or till demise if they have a low support system.....maybe a set of parameters need to be worked out and mechanism of phasing down the support amts as progress happens ...however is a field that will need a lot of monitoring and administration done in a very self less manner.

No way does this kind of doling help in any way. Like they said in the past-stop feeding the hungry with fish. Instead teach them or help them Fish.

A distinctive sign of humanity, is the tendency to almost always go the easy way and the least effort... But, giving money to people, without this money having a correlation with individual productivity, is simply applying a policy of the beggar... It does not favor the establishment of a productive mentality, but rather, of an easy and parasitic mentality.
At least the experiment has shown that, literally, giving money to people is not a good idea.

Wow, @ssangra's opinion matches many Craxers who download for free and show no respect or value.
As goes CraxMe, then goes the UBI failures of India, Finland, Kenya and Alaska.

Regarding Pedro Sirs comment on free income being akin to supporting beggars has an interesting angle. In Germany for example people are mostly aethists and hate to donate to the church because a general opinion is that the religious people sit easy and earn from the taxes people pay. In places like my country people do donate heaps to temples and churches. Most muslims keep aside 1/3 rd of their income for donation. The intent of this was usually for the more fortunate to donate to such institutions to allow them to spread the social benefits to those who were poor or wanting ...and this is since time immemorial. It was designed by religions of the world for ensuring survival of the species. Its only since these institutions have gradually reduced doing the good and started getting greedy that the govt has tried to step in and turned greedier. Its possibly programmed in life to protect their own and other living beings after one and ones family is taken care of...so there is an altrusic aspect to this. However as I feel some rules need to control and govern this so that it succeeds and the proceeds reach the needy for the time that they need and they be duty bound to grow less needy with time so other needy benefit. e.g. in european countries it is a shame to take dole. The social pressure is a controlling factor. Something powerful like and rigour in administration and monitoring that is also needed to prevent abuse of a facility.

I don't think of many Craxers as "wicked", just "stingy" or "cheap". They take others for granted.

IRL, I don't give coins to beggars. Instead, I give them food or clothing. However, the children in Chennai didn't like that as it had negative consequences for the begging business.

The legal monthly minimum wage in Peru is equivalent to approximately US$ 281, with some benefits that salary can reach US$ 450... A recent journalistic investigation revealed that a beggar in the capital Lima, earns on average monthly US$ 750 ... Begging is a business for the false beggars. ( ︺︹︺ )
Regarding the granting of Rate, it is necessary to specify that this action is a way of thanking.... Generally that gratitude is towards the effort and generosity of the user who shared the book(s)... Although users generously share books without waiting for the gratitude of others, it is always good to express gratitude (Rate) as a gesture of recognition and good education.
If the user who downloads a book does not want to grant Rate, he/she can choose to send a private «thank-you» message to the user who shared the book(s)... There is always some way to thank... Albeit discouragingly, not all users have any of those gestures.

We had a system in college specially for ref books which were expensive. Some senior would have purchased them in dollar prices. After their study got over these would get passed down to the juniors with the caveat that after u complete ur study pass it to the college or any common library or to some other deserving junior who needed it. The system worked like a dream and often u wud get great books in physics, maths and sciences from renowned authors. I recently saw one by Resnick and Halliday that u guys posted and it brought back pleasant memories of the senior I got it from and the junior who got it from me. I collected a copy from ur kind selves and thanks a heap and a huge hug to all of u who keep this platform afloat......now on will rate more regularly.
