Just wanted to share my appreciation for this remarkable story - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. The slow burn drama is helmed by great performers like Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell, and is swimmingly captured in all its intensity by the empathetic director, Martin McDonagh. The fundamental premise of a mother suffering her daughter's tragic death and resolving to deliver pressure to the authorities (police) in her town can be identified with anywhere in the world.
The ending felt quite apt though some could argue that as audiences we are generally used to bloody resolutions offered by filmmakers and storytellers, which complete the story arcs for our satisfaction. In this case, the emotional violence comes to an intense climax, perfectly telegraphing the consummate end of the narrative. What may happen next could very well be unpredictable - knowing and trusting McDonagh's storytelling skills, and this could well be the subject of a sequel if at all - but we don't need to know any further. The story is well told, well performed and is complete in its own terms.
One of the best I've seen this year.
