Did You Know? #1
The ventilation system in airplanes has air vents containing charcoal.Because of its porous nature, charcoal is a good absorbent for odours.
No wonder, despite the sealed fuselage, bad odours are not easily noticed (..including farts!)
It is commonplace knowledge that the air pressure drops during flight.Gases in the bowels expand up to 30% more than on the ground, causing more occurrences of flatulence.Airlines have chosen the easier option of the charcoal filters—the other being to tell passengers to wear 'special' charcoal underwear which absorbs the gas as it comes out of the bowels. This has been considered ineffective,as the holes for the legs in the underwear causes a 'tunnel effect' that tends to channel the gas away and out through the legs.
So next time you're on board, don't be afraid to break that wind.
(Uh..it's best to go to the restroom to fart though. It's polite and conducive.)
