India is a very volatile country, so IMO, there isn't much of a choice but to ban books that would lead to civil disorder. Maybe a few decades in the future, we will not be so quick to take offence.
But who decides which books lead to civil disorder? Anything connected with a government is likely to be abused such that those in power stay in power.
Banning books for any reason can be a very slippery slope.
Speech and text deserve the same respect. Its really our own failing that we allow retraction of the spoken word, and yet flay those who have the courage to ink their thoughts.
expressing ones ideas is the fundametal right of an ndividual. if someone disagrees to it, they can always refrain. banning a book only serves to give it publicity.
