There is an article by Aatish Taseer "How English ruined Indian literature". It's a very telling com ...

Thanks for sharing the article. Three years down the line, it still holds true. And probably will for years to come. English in indeed a language and not a class.

I read both Urdu and English. The quality of literature has definitely declined over the passage of time. Competition in English literature is of a much higher caliber as compared to Urdu literature at present. I feel the Golden age of Urdu Literature has passed with the likes of Manto, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Razia Butt, Qateel Shifai, Ibn e Insha, Jamiluddin Aali, Ismat Chugtai, Premchand, Rajinder Singh Bedi, Krishan Chander, Ahmed Faraz, Bano Qudsia, Mufti Mumtaz, Abdul Hameed, Ashfaq Ahmed and Intizar Hussain.
The only highly credible writer at the moment is Mustansar Hussain Tarar. Others are above average to average.
