For me it's been Cecelia Ahern and Colleen Hoover's books. Both these authors books are always pleasant and give a good feel while reading.

World War Z, Picked it up believing it to be a typical Zombie narrative but the book simply blew me away

India: A Million Mutinies Now by V.S. Naipaul - I had only read books by Naipaul that were acidic about India. Seeing the title (and size of the book) I thought this one would be a bit of a slog. Found it so detailed and insightful that halfway through the book wished it was longer and did not want it to end.

I can second this one! World War Z was meant to be a light diversion, but it was so much better than i could have expected.
