As others have said, these are very personal choices and one cannot speak for another. But, considering the field of fiction, my preferences lie in the mystery / adventure / thriller genre, and also humour.
Again speaking personally, extremely long winded books put me off. Anything over 300 pages I would just fall asleep. I like my thrillers or mysteries to be taut, fast paced, and lean. I dislike excruciating depth of detail for the most part.
I like verbosity to some extent in humorous books, as for instance Wodehouse, and, even though the Saint books are not necessarily about humour, Leslie Charteris' use of words, which strike me as funny at times. |
