Turkmenistan, in what many might consider a radical move, has banned the usage of the word 'coronavirus' even as the pandemic continues to affect and kill thousands across the world.
According to a report in Reporters Without Borders, the state-controlled media are no longer allowed to use the word and it has even been removed from health information brochures distributed in schools, hospitals and workplaces.
The report has quoted Turkmen journalists as saying that those heard talking about it and using the word are liable to be arrested by police, who is patrolling the roads in plain clothes.
The country has reportedly yet not had a case of COVID-19.
