City authorities say positive discrimination will make journeys safer and help low-income families.

▼ As a politics student, Sonakshi Dogra has given the bold new plan by the Delhigovernment to let all women ride free on the metro and buses a thorough going-over. “It’s ridiculous. Why favour women this way? What about male students and working men? Women can’t ask for gender equality and then support inequality on public transport,” she said firmly.
Dogra was about to enter Ashram metro station with three male friends, also students at the same university. They spend about 4,000 rupees (£45) each a month on transport.
Her friend Gaurav Verma said: “How will it be fair if Sonakshi saves that money and I don’t? We have been asking the Delhi government for student passes on the metro and had no luck, but they go and do this? It’s a publicity stunt because Delhi voters go to the polls in February.”
The plan has aroused strong emotions. The stated reason for it, provided by the Aam Aadmi party (the Common Man’s party), which runs the Delhi government, is to make women in the city feel safer.
Jasmine Shah, vice-chair of the Dialogue and Development Commission of the Delhi government, said: “Public transport, particularly the metro, is the safest form of transport for women. Many women who can’t afford the metro fares have to walk long distances to work or a long way to a bus stop. Or they use auto-rickshaws or informally run local van services that are not safe.”
Shah is the first to concede that free public transport is not a silver bullet. All the other factors – policing, street lighting, changes in male mentality (▪ ▪ ▪)

As far as bad ideas go, this has to rank as the worst in a long time. Please do search and read E Sreedharan's letter to the Delhi Govt. on this subject. Populism for votes at it's peak .

Regardless of politics and politicians, regardless of discrimination or inclusion, regardless of machismo or feminism, regardless of reality or fantasy, regardless of any discussion... Unfortunately, some people forget that all, absolutely everyone, we come from a woman.
Attacking, insulting, underestimating or belittling a woman is like denying our own existence...

End sexism: remove gender declaration from all applications, e.g. school, job, housing, medical, sports, bathroom doors, etc.
Promote unisex kabaddi.

End sexism: remove gender declaration from all applications, e.g. school, job, housing, medical, sp ...

Actually, I think that sexism does not lie in the distinctions according to gender and/or sex, which will always exist, but rather lies in the way in which a situation is approached that places a person in a vulnerable state and exclusively by gender or sex, that is, there will always be distinctions, but when those distinctions impair liberties and individuals and rights solely for sexual reasons or criteria, then a situation of prejudice is created that can definitely affect the development and/or well-being of a human group, in this case, women.
For example, since many years I have removed the gender of employment application forms in my company, and I do not request that people include a photograph... Since then I have only hired staff based on their academic achievements and work experience , and not based on people's faces and whether they are men or women, or their skin color. The only thing that matters to me is that they do their job well and maximize my profits.
I have women driving delivery vans, I have two women occupying managerial positions, I have two people with visual disabilities doing office work and some foreigners also working.
There are still many traditional and conservative paradigms, generally with a religious origin, and that condemns women or men to do certain jobs or things only because they are women or men, and denying all of them the freedom, opportunity and possibility to do different things.
I think that all people, regardless of gender, have the potential to do something and achieve their own goals, regardless of what a majority group wants to impose.
Interestingly in antiquity, civilizations such as the Egyptian or Greek, even the Roman or some pre-Columbian cultures, were more liberal in those aspects...
Another additional curious fact, that two men walk together holding hands, is a gesture of friendship in some Arab countries, however, it is a gesture that can cause disapproval in many other countries... Even polygamy and polyandry can happen in various cultures.
These are examples of how variable and diverse human groups can be in different parts of the world. What is acceptable to some may be unacceptable to others...They are situations that show that nobody is born with pre-established ideas in their heads, all those things teach and they learn.
By the way, I do not think I can have several wives, because It would be terrible to have more than one mother-in-law... LOL

While it is a good initiative, it will still take at-least 4-6 months to realize this proposal due to lot of procedures and formalities.
Hope the same can be implemented for Men as well.
