Well I must say ur explanation regarding all sides political, citizen and otherwise is quite lucid.
As a child one gets a whack or two when one plays too much and cuts study time consistently despite parents assurances of intense punishment or makes a repeated mistake or two in maths or gets lost searching for flowers in the hills or fishing for fish with children from a nearby slum (in utter happiness) when the parents have a  near heart attack searching for u and then spend hours cleaning u up with dettol etc In such a case one does not treat the whack as a life threat. But yes it does cause a bit of intense sadness but one understands why a parent went overboard after a while though it is tough to forgive the lack of trust for a while at least. No I dont agree that it leads to aggression also though I concede that in case of abusive parents (eg alcoholic/drug abusing ones) it may cause aggression.
Opportunities created by individuals are separate than the ones expected to be created by Governments. To create opp the govt that is only focussed on elections wont go far.
Regarding mother in laws geog distance has never been a deterrent. . I presume ur ma in law is Indian and yes Indian ladies are generous !! specially to son in laws and outlaws.

...

I have been fortunate not to have been punished with severity or physical violence, although as a child I have caused many disturbances and shattering, I even set fire to the wicker armchairs that we had in the garden of the house , the maximum punishment that was applied to me, was depriving me of cookies and chocolates ... Something that, when I was a child, was the worst of punishments.
• Well, not all human beings have the aptitudes and qualities to be good parents, any person can engender a children, but only very few people fully and capably fulfill the role of a true father and/or mother.
There are many psychological studies that confirm the psychological and emotional damage caused by violence in a child. That violence in childhood, causes that child when he or she is an adult, externalize it.
Children, when they live in an environment that exerts violence towards them, later believe that such language and violent attitude can solve the problems that arise in their lives from them. Consequently, when you see some adult person acting with violence, it is very likely that that person, as a child, has also received a high dose of violence.
Violence is not necessarily physical (beatings, mistreatment), but it can also be verbal, emotional and psychological violence, so, there are also different types and levels of violence that can negatively affect the physical, mental and psychological health of children.
• The big problem is not politics, but rather politicians, mainly mediocre and corrupt politicians, in my country and in almost all countries on this side of the world, abound.
• No, my mother-in-law is not from India, she is Latina (Caribbean), very conservative and religious.
• Actually it was not an order or mandate, it was just a suggestion... It is easier to read a single message in a fluid way, read several individual messages.

Bangalore and Delhi are next in the queue. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. What a world we are going to leave for our children

Does the world/planet stand a chance when we over-populate it with children like indiscriminate cockroaches?
Do we plan our families such that children are borne into a nuturing environment, one that parents can personally sustain?
Or, do we expect others, e.g. the State, to care for our spawn?
Do we use existing tech for genetic screening to reduce challenges and burden?
Or, do we continue to roll our personal dice regardless of impact on others in the bigger, longer-term picture?

When you breed a whirlwind with a whirlwind, what are you likely to get?

I fear we have deviated from the actual topic of discussion. Yes political will is necessary. Govt. Agencies need to be proactive. Incentives must be declared in form of tax rebates to encourage rain water harvesting. And common people should also not always look at govt and wait for soos. Why not take the onus on self and do the needful. At end of day, we ourselves are going thirsty.

Rhett_Bassard + 12 It's been many years since I've heard 'do the needful'.
