It is election season in India.TV channels and newspapers are churning out predictions of the election results based on opinion polls and local surveys.While the statistical techniques employed are sound there are doubts in many quarters about the integrity of these exercises.Past experience shows that even the exit polls have tended to be wide of the mark giving rise to skepticism and erosion of the credibility of the process.Any thoughts on what is wrong and what needs to be done?
