I forgot to mention 'Maus' and most other books based on the horrors of Holocaust. I've stopped reading books on that because the misery they experienced is too extreme to bear.

There was a time when I liked reading those kind of books. But now I feel I don't want to read the stuff with misery and all. So now it's mainly thrillers and the like for me with occasional non-fiction in between.

I was also moved by Thomas Hardy's books - Tess of the d'Urbervilles, Far from the Maddening Crowd. Oh yes, Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, Great Expectations.

Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner

Khalid hossenis a thousand splendid suns was also very sad and a haunting book. But didn’t evoke tears in me. Was quite a depressing read!

There was a certain innocence in The Kite Runner which evoked a lot of tears. That's the only story till date which made me cry.

There were few which brought tears to my eyes. But I would say The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne would top the list. Have anyone read them?
