Does anyone remember watching the 1983 ICC World Cup.

While India has added more to its name since then, the 1983 World Cup will remain one of the most well known, if only because it was the first time ever.

Feel free to jog your memories, add your thoughts and feelings of the time and now to the thread.

we won 2011 world cup too.
but you are right winning 1983 world cup was very special.
it was like bangladesh winning by defeating australia.
we were underdogs, we defeated giant like west indies.
that was the golden time for indian cricket.

Ronnie215 can you tell me what was different about the 1983 Indian Cricket Team compared to 1979 and even 1987.

I did not watch the 1979 World Cup but in the SF of 1987 it was a repeat of the 1983 SF- India against England.

While India defeated England easily in 1983, the English team took revenge four years later. Do you think it was due to changes in line up, strategy, bowling or could it have been something else. Some have said it was just that England was lucky that day; do you share that opinion.

England then went on to lose by 7 Runs in the Final to Australia. The irony of 1987 was that the winning World Cup team, Australia, had lost by 13 Runs to Zimbabwe in an earlier match.

Kapil Dev was in all of the three World Cups mentioned (1979, 1983 and 1987) and was captain in 1983. I don't think he was a member of the 1975 Indian team.

i think we played very badly away prior to 1983 world cup especially in tests.
so it seemed like very challenging to defeat west indies in english weather.
but we did it . against those four horsemen of death .

compare this to 2011, where we played on our turf with turning track and home crowd support.
we won all the matches clinically.
