I tried really hard but all in vain. Just can't connect to the story. Nothing moving and only words. I felt like standing on a ships dock and words are flying all over. Yes, that too, fancy words for which I have to keep referring Kindles dictionary.

All of these feelings at 73% !!!
And then I left it unfinished.

I really liked her Aryavarta and was looking forward to this.

I hear you. It read more as a non-fiction than a myth fic. The author seems quite inspired by Tharoorosaurus Rex. I haven't read Aryavarta, not sure if I want to.

Finished it !

What could have been an epic was given a short end. Reminded of Shogun by James Clavell. It had such a wonderful story line only if it could have been treated well. Seems the author was forced to write about the story and she was in a hurry to finish it. So many occasions to expand on such wonderful plot wasted.
Can't complaint about the language though. Yes, many new words but you have to commend the author on the command on the language. Yes, the words were new and had to use the dictionary feature too often , but they were all apt and used correctly.
Overall... opportunity of an epic lost to wrap the book in less than 200 pages

I would give it 4/5

Tharoorosaurus Rex - hahah. epic term.
Aryavarta - I recd a review copy of last part in trilogy. I was impressed how mythology was turned into believable logic and scientific explanations.

I agree about the storyline and concept. It had the potential but the author was somehow not able to execute it well. I found the end lacking too.

Wow, I'm glad I am not the only person having a problem with Shashi Tharoor's ' rich vocab' that he doesn't hesitate to show off in his books and on Twitter. While reading his 'Era of Darkness's book I couldn't help wondering if he completed his manuscript and then changed some words just to make it pompous. Sorry about the off-topic rant!

You are not alone. I am quite curious to know the club's view. Perhaps we can have a debate on this.
