Migrants are not the cause of the problem in our societies, but for many they become the face or the symptom of the problem. Telling people that opposing migration is xenophobic and refusing to acknowledge real problems in the current migration regime will play into the hands of right-wing populists, who supposedly are the only ones that dare to call a spade a spade.

Migration in human terms comes under two headings-

'Human Migration' and 'International Migration'.

Human Migration refers to individual movement from one place to another and is based on choice.

'International Migration' can be individual, but is usually associated with a collective designation.

Wikipedia has identified the following push and pull factors-

Push Factors

Poor Medical Care
Not enough jobs

So-The problem of immigrants looms large not for those places which they left behind but those which ...

Actually, a problem does loom large for those places left behind:
#BrainDrain

We have long seen this with Caribbean island nations whose best minds and genetic pool have moved on elsewhere. But we don't learn.
How many of India's best doctors, engineers, Internet wizards, and even astronauts have abandoned their homeland. Yet, the exit flood continues.
Could the Philippines have better retained the thousands of nurses that have left for greener pasture rather than serve their country's critical need?
When ambitious, willing-to-work citizens leave Mexico, is it any surprise that the cartels fill the vacuum?
And these are just the countries where I have personal experience.
