[General] No, Amazon Cannot Replace Libraries

@mousetrap We do need a lot of catching up but we need to have some indigenous way of tackling the problem and cant follow blindly the practice of others. I believe inculcating reading habits at an early age would be a good start and regular visits to libraries can make a good start

We might have the habit of visiting local, private lending libraries... but how often do we check into public libraries? TOne of the reasons is that it caters to a very narrow category, most probably college students. There are exceptions, but most public libraries don't have enough material for children or specific genres. And given the lack of/ poor funding for libraries, we are in no position to copy or take inspiration from the US public libraries yet...

In my city, our public library caters to almost all categories. They have a separate children section too.  And I see many members picking up books.

True, some are really well-equipped, and others not. I've seen both extremes. I guess it depends on the state too.
