Reading long hours on an e book reader usually causes neck and hand pain for me. Wanted to check with you all how do you manage to maintain proper posture while reading an ebook?

Is there anything that can be used to be hands free and that can help reading long hours without fatigue - especially while reading on the couch and on the bed?

For reference I use a Kindle Paperwhite.

I usually read lying down in my bed. What I do to avoid a constant strain on any one side of arm/neck, is to change hands frequently. Also I change my position from straight on my back to on my left side and then to on my right side - thereby allowing one side to rest. This works for me. I use iPad which is a bit heavier than Kindle Paperwhite.
If and when I have to read in a sitting posture on my sofa, I take a couple pillows on my lap on which I rest my reader, leaving my hand free. But constantly bending your neck to look down can cause neck pain and stiffness so I rarely do that now.

I prefer reading in bed propped up, with a couple of cushions to place the Kindle. I don't need to bend the neck then. Lying and reading for me is tough due to the glasses.

I too read mostly lying in my bed placing my Kindle PW or Kobo Glo on a stand on my left side table. I don't know whether it is the most proper posture for reading or not, but its a matter of decades' long habit for me. I usually spend hours reading like that in the night being a night owl.

One interesting information may be further useful for the OP's another question regarding 'Hands free'. Yes, there happens to be a little piece of plug-in for Kindle PW, called 'KindleLazy'. This helps to turn pages and alter brightness via a device like a keyboard or wireless switch to send keys like page up, page down etc. This free plug-in can be downloaded from GitHub.

Here is a video representation:

i usually sit on my bed, leaning on a backrest and read. lying down on one side puts a lot of strain on the back.

Propped up in the bed is my favored position too. But then I also sit and read on table chair and leaning back on a sofa chair also works for me.
