Unable to upload books

Is there an embargo on uploading books outside the readers group? I uploaded a lot of collections last night since I wanted to share them as I had done on ucweb. However, I saw today that not only had those threads been removed, but my newfound status as a junior member had been stripped and I was reverted back to Newbie. Can anyone please clarify the issue, since I am genuinely interested in sharing books and reading them but am presently unable to do either. Mind you this isnt a complaint or a crib but just seeking a solution to the predicament I find myself in. Will continue contributing from my side however I can, would prefer to do it as per the rules
