HMD Global, the brand licensee of Nokia, appears all set to launch a new smartphone in China on Thursday. For now, not much is known about the device. HMD China has not yet launched the Nokia 8 (Review) in that country, and it may very well be a launch of that smartphone and its two variants (4GB RAM/ 64GB storage and 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage). Or, it could be an altogether new smartphone, with a teaser on a Tmall confirming the same date and pointing to the number '7', or Qi in Chinese.

As we mentioned, HMD China has sent invites for the launch event in Shanghai on Thursday, something we've independently confirmed with the company. Not much can be seen from the invite, beyond the event beginning at 10:30am CST (8am IST).

According to a report by Nokia Mob, the Nokia 7 will be launched in three configurations - 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage, 4GB RAM/ 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage. It is supposed to be powered by a Snapdragon 630 SoC, and based on previous teasers on Tmall, offer the Nokia 8's OZO Audio and Bothie features.

HMD China may launch the Nokia 8 instead, as we already discussed. The smartphone was recently made available to purchase in India, where it has only been launched in its 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant. However, just a day before India availability, the smartphone's hitherto unannounced 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant made its way to Finland. We can expect China, with its well-documented love for specifications, to also receive the top-end model.
