A heart wrenching tragedy this episode has brought to light the utter callousness of the mine operators and the inadequacy and desperation of the state agencies in dealing with the crisis as it emerged.It is time for the regulatory agencies to get their act together and ensure that such instances do not recur.The verses from the Deserted Village come to mind;"Ill fares the land to hastening ills a prey where wealth accumulates and men decay."
