Google Maps in India has finally received the option to share live location and ETA to contacts for someone traveling on public transport like bus and train. This means you can directly share your live location along with the expected time of arrival with your friends from the Google Maps app itself. However, this feature is now available on Android only. While there is no official word from Google India, it is expected that iPhone users will also get the feature soon.
Google India through its official Twitter handle announced, “Starting today, you can share your live location and ETA with your loved ones on Google Maps, for bus and train journeys.”

This feature is similar to “Live Location” sharing option on WhatsApp. Having said that the shared contacts will not just have the live location but can also see the exact time of arrival. Users can share the location to other apps as well like Facebook Messenger or Hangouts or WhatsApp. This feature can also be used to keep track of your family members when they are taking public transport to reach somewhere. Last year in October, WhatsApp rolled out a similar feature on both Android and iOS.
How to share live location on Android Google Maps app?
After enter the destination when the navigation begins, scroll down to get the detailed route. You will see a “Share Trip” option. Tap on that to share live location with your contact on either Messenger, WhatsApp or Hangouts.
On a related note, Google is making it easier for you to connect with Businesses around you by rolling out a text messaging feature in its Maps app. Last year Google launched a feature that allowed customers to send messages to Businesses from their Business Profiles on Google. The same is now integrated inside the Google Maps app. It has been explained that users will start seeing those messages that they had with businesses inside the Maps app and can continue chatting from there itself. The option can be found in the side menu of both Google Maps for both Android and iOS.
