Once they are adapted in the form of TV shows, I feel they lose the form of the book. I mean the central theme and idea may be the same. But the narration of the story and minute details regarding the plot may change.

I think it depends on if you have read the book. Also the TV show don't go into details on everything (characters profile, description of a scene...)

I think the question is faulty as a "yes or no." Little in life is absolute.

As an aside, I also think "Mr. Mercedes" was an excellent adaptation of the book. No surprise since Stephen King was both author and executive producer.

Overall it is difficult to adapt a book into either a TV series or a film.

However, in an overwhelming range of books that have become TV series, the results have been positive and as my colleague on the forum, Wakkaday, said, it makes people want to read the book.

In other ways, the film or TV series makes for an interesting analysis in how they differ from the book/s. This is both in terms of characters, setting, content and in some cases language. Where there is more than one adaptation of the book, variation between the two or more series makes the book stand out even more in some cases.

I nthink TV shows does a better job than movies in this regard...getting enough time to expand the characters and all...they will sometime influence you to read the books...

The idea of a Tv series is to depict the plot theme and charterers. every element of the author would be very difficult to portray

With a few honourable exceptions, I think not

IMHO it certainly does, just look at Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Games of Thrones just to name a few. Of cos there are also poor adaptations but we can't deny the fact that the adaptations have attracted people who might not have read the book but after watching the movie/TV series, they started reading the books.
