Hi Umaa.
Hmm... It is necessary to make some precisions:
The money that is used in CraxMe Forum, like in UCF, is not in strict, money, neither real nor virtual. It's just not real money. It is fictitious money just like a printed paper ticket or bill monopoly game. Starting from this basic concept, even when the word "money" is used, the reality is that it is not money, since it has no real value that represents it, it is an unreal, imaginary, figurative money.
Another point to keep in mind is, that here is not practicing any kind of commercial transaction with books that are freely shared. That is, this place, CraxMe is not a market of money exchange for products or services. No one here is getting a real profit that can be economically verifiable through an official exchange record. Even when we talk about money, this money is unreal, lacking real economic power, nothing can be done with it.
Certainly, some users who share books may be able to apply prices for downloading the books they share here. But again, these prices are not expressed in a real money or currency, real in the sense of having an economic value that can generate an economic activity of benefits. Dollars, Rupees, Euros or bitcoin, are real currencies, which have a backing, representation and real economic values. Money and karma here, do not have that real value, their only value is symbolic and imaginary.
Finally, the sole purpose of unreal money, like the karma given here, is simply a symbolic recognition of the effort of users to share the books here, money or karma does not grant users buying or negotiating power because it is symbolic and devoid of real intrinsic value. Again, nothing can be bought or sold in a real market with the money or karma bestowed here.
I understand the concern expressed, it is a legitimate but unfounded concern. Since there is no real commercial activity here.
There would definitely be an ethical dilemma if there were real trade here with eBooks being shared. But the correlation to that dilemma is non-existent in the case of CraxMe Forum, since that trade is non-existent.
